“Beyond Catfish Row: The Art of Porgy and Bess” Club Member Preview

This private event gives club members a first chance to view the “Beyond Catfish Row: The Art of Porgy and Bess” exhibit before it opens to the public. Gain insight into Porgy and Bess throughan exhibition of works of art interpreting the famed 1934 opera. Find paintings from the 1930s, including those by realist George Biddle, who illustrated the original libretto; Henry Botkin; and George Gershwin himself. Also included are more recent interpretations by contemporary artists Kara Walker and Jonathan Green, who is the visual designer for the festival's production of the show. Gibbes Museum of Art, 135 Meeting St. Friday, 3-6 p.m.
